A Humble Arrival
When Jesus entered Jerusalem in the final week of his life, he came riding on a humble donkey — not on a war horse as people might have expected from a new leader, not clothed in armour, and not surrounded by soldiers.
People cheered as he arrived. They shouted “Hosanna,” meaning ‘save us’, and waved branches.
They longed for someone who could finally bring stability, fairness, and hope into a world that often felt uncertain.
They believed he was the long‑awaited saviour of the world. They hoped he would change everything.
In many ways, their world wasn’t so different from ours today. People then, just like now, wondered who they could trust, who truly cared, and whether anyone in power would make life better.
A Leader Who Chose Peace
But Jesus arrived in a way no one expected of a potential new leader; quietly, gently, choosing peace over force.
He didn’t come to impress or intimidate. He came to show a different kind of strength — the strength of humility, compassion, and steady courage.
Palm Sunday invites us to think about the kind of leader Jesus was, and still is today.
Strength Shown Through Compassion
He didn’t push others aside to get ahead. He didn’t use fear to control. He didn’t promise quick fixes.
Instead, He walked alongside ordinary people, listened to their struggles, and brought hope that reached deeper than politics or circumstances.
For the crowds watching on that first Palm Sunday, this must have been confusing.
How could someone so humble be the one who would change the world?
The Quiet Power of Palm Sunday
Yet this is exactly what makes Palm Sunday so powerful. It reminds us that real change often begins quietly — with kindness, truth, and a willingness to put others first.
As we begin Holy Week, Palm Sunday sets the tone for everything that follows.
It’s the start of a week that brings surprise, after surprise — a week where love is tested, darkness seems to win, then hope rises in a way no one ever imagined possible.
An Invitation to Look Again at Jesus
Wherever you find yourself on the journey of faith, Palm Sunday invites you to look again at Jesus, and Holy Week gives you space to pause and reflect upon Him.
