The Season of Lent: 18th February - 2nd April 2026
The Church year is shaped around seasons that reflect the life and ministry of Jesus.
We now enter the Season of Lent which derives from an old Anglo‑Saxon word meaning “spring” or “lengthen,” referring to the lengthening days. The forty days of Lent recall Jesus’ forty days in the desert.
In the early church, new converts used this period to fast, pray, and prepare for baptism at Easter, and it later became a practice for all Christians.
Lent is a time of self‑discipline, reflection on Christ’s death and resurrection, and spiritual renewal.
