Psalm 96 Verses 1-3

Sing to the Lord a new song;
    sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Sing to the Lord, praise his name;
    proclaim his salvation day after day.
Declare his glory among the nations,
    his marvelous deeds among all peoples.

Psalm 96 NIV

Reflection:

Many people think they need to go to a holy place to encounter God. Whilst it is important to those of the Christian faith to gather together and worship God as we do in chapels, churches, and cathedrals – his presence is nevertheless all around us as we go about our daily lives.

As well as in holy places, another obvious place to experience God is in his creation. As the Psalmist says in Psalm 96, the Lord made the heavens, earth and sea, the fields, trees, and forests. The Psalm says all creation sings the splendour of God the Creator. From tiny insects to gigantic glacier mountains, we can see God’s hand at work and wonder and sing praises to Him.

But God is by our side in all aspects of our lives. In the everyday things such as our daily work, hobbies, friends, finances, homes, and travel. How we conduct ourselves as we go about our daily routines offers an opportunity to serve God and act as a representative of his on earth.

When we practice living with the presence of God as we go about the minute details of our lives, we can experience more meaning and purpose in all that we do. Then, as the birds sing their praises in the dawn chorus, so too our hearts will sing praises to God and bring peace to our souls.
